Year-Round Air Quality

Concept of 4 seasons

While dust, mold, and allergies might be most associated with spring they plague many homes all year round. Your home may be as stuffy in summer as it is dry in winter. Air quality is a year-round issue, that you can combat all year too. Here are several ways that you can focus on your air quality all year round.

Ventilate

Opening your windows and doors may work as ventilation in the fall and spring, but they aren’t a great idea in the winter and summer, when you want to control the temperature of your home more closely. So, how can you get better air ventilation year-round? Try these methods:

  • Spot ventilation: Many parts of your home create worse quality all-year-round. You can target these rooms with a ventilation system dedicated to them. You might consider the bathroom, kitchen, or garage for spot ventilation.
  • Whole-home ventilation systems: These systems pull fresh air into your home all year, refreshing your space. They also vent out excess humidity and smells.

Control Humidity Year-Round

Too much humidity can be as much of a problem as too little. In the summer, high humidity makes high heat more uncomfortable and can spur on mold and other moisture problems in the home. In the winter, low humidity dries out your skin and can cause static cling and other annoyances. It’s important to control humidity all year to make sure you’re comfortable with a humidifier or dehumidifier.

Air Filters and Purifiers

Air filters and air purifiers will remove many different contaminants that your home may deal with throughout the year. Of course, removing dust, pet dander, viruses and bacteria is a fulltime job that air purifiers can help you with. In the spring and summer, air purifiers will also help remove allergens from your air and reduce the symptoms of your allergies. They can also help control mold during these two more humid seasons, by removing mold spores from the air.

Schedule maintenance concept

Invest in Maintenance for Your Equipment

Keeping your HVAC equipment, such as your air conditioner and furnace, clean will help keep your air quality high too. These machines have filters that pick up dirt, dust, and many other contaminants, and prevent them from harming the machine. Changing their filter regularly will help keep your air clean and will help your equipment stay working properly for longer. When your HVAC professional does their yearly maintenance on your equipment, they can also clean or change the filter for you, so you don’t have to worry about it.
